by Owen Jones

It is very handy to get some tips on bass fishing when you are a beginner. Firstly, it it is important to know that bass are fish whose metabolism depends on the temperature of the surrounding water. Their metabolism rises or falls proportionally with the increase or decrease in water temperature. Therefore, if the water where they happen to be is cold, as it is in deeper waters, they are less active and so eat a lot less.

Furthermore, in about January one should start bass fishing in warmer and warmer waters because the bass tend to leave cold deep waters in order to spawn. Also, during the Autumn bass begin to move on towards colder and deeper waters where they would be safer during the cold season. However, fishermen should not expect them to migrate great distances quickly. Their cycles of moving from one place to the next as the seasons change can take several months.

It is also good to know when you are bass fishing that these fish are very sociable: that is, they tend to shoal together into quite large schools, which generally consist of fish of the same size. That obviously means that, if you catch some bass in one spot, you are likely to catch more in the same area so long as you do not throw the fish you’ve already caught back into the water dead as that could well panic the rest of the shoal.

Furthermore, bass fishing areas are quite easy to find. You should remember that they are predators but not really very active ones since their favourite food is not actually one they have to fight to get. Rather, they wait patiently and lazily for prey to swim past and then they ambush it.

They very often go for injured or less energetic game even though this might not be on their regular menu. Their regular menu consists of crawfish, minnows, worms, insects, frogs and so on. If fishermen learn these things about bass, together with their mating habits, fishing for them should be much easier and more fun.

On the other hand, these fish are prey themselves so they need cover as well. That is why bass fishing is carried out in areas where they can find safety in and around small or big rocks, weeds and other shady or sunny, well-lit areas where it is difficult for them to be spotted.

Successful bass fishing may also depend on the type of bait that is chosen by the angler. Bait should vary according to both the season ” spring, summer, autumn or winter ” and the spawning cycle of this fish species. For beginners, let us not forget that there are always experienced anglers ready to come up with tips. Just don’t be afraid to ask because the most effective bait varies from region to region.

You can tell a largemouth bass by the distinctive jagged edged stripes on either side of the fish created by a series of dark spots. The largemouth bass can also be all black in color. Another distinctive characteristic of the largemouth bass is that the upper jaw reaches past the back of the eye.

The diet of the largemouth bass changes throughout its lifespan. Filling up on plankton and insects as young juvenile fish, as it gets older it moves to smaller fish, and then eventually birds and small mammals such as rats and mice in adulthood. Using their sight, smell, and hearing senses, they seize their prey under the cover of brush, grass, or drop offs. The main sense that the largemouth bass uses is its sight.

The most suitable place for largemouth bass fishing is in their spawning beds. These are usually found in shallow waters, such as ponds and small lakes, with mild temperatures (roughly 64 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit). Female bass lay their eggs in shallow hollows that are prepared by the male bass. In these hollows, she can lay roughly 1 000 000 eggs in a spawning season. The male bass then protects the eggs from the many predators that inhabit the water.

One of the most exciting things about fishing for the largemouth bass is the fight that is put up when it is hooked. The tug and pull of a largemouth bass will make anyone’s heart beat faster with excitement. Some techniques used for largemouth bass fishing are doodling, flipping, and pitching. When casting your line it is crucial that you are accurate. The different types of casting are overhand, underhand, and sidearm. Some of the casting tips that you can use are as follows:

* Lower your lure below the tip of your rod before you cast your line. This will give the lure good momentum when it is cast.
* Try to land your lure on the surface of the water as quietly as possible.
* Always cast your lure beyond the position of the fish that you wish to catch.
* Good wrist movement is important when casting.

There are actually two types of artificial baits used for largemouth bass fishing, i.e. soft plastic baits and hard baits. The types of soft plastic baits include tube baits, plastic worms, grubs, and soft jerk baits. The types of hard baits that are used are crank baits, swimming spoons, spinner baits, jigging spoons, jigs, and vibrating lures.

Most largemouth bass fishermen release their catch once they have successfully reeled it in. Largemouth bass are quite tough and they are able to withstand many catch and release situations and hook injuries without damaging their mouths and gills. There is much more to be learnt with regard to largemouth bass fishing – this article merely highlights a few important largemouth bass facts that you should know. Largemouth bass fishing is a hobby that is enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages all around the world – appropriate for solo fishing excursions and group trips alike.

by Craig Petersen

Successful surf fishing requires the right combination of skill, weather conditions and surf fishing equipment. Fishermen of all ages can enjoy learning to surf fish, and many locations offer lessons on surf fishing that cover topics such as surf fishing equipment, the fish to be caught, the water conditions and the skill’s basics.

A very important item to be covered during surf fishing lessons is the type of equipment and how it will function best for the ultimate fishing experience. Interestingly, there are few optimal pieces of surf fishing equipment, as everyone tends to have personal favorites.

Fishing rods work best in the surf if they are between 10 and 15 feet long, and the choice of rod length depends on what one is most comfortable with.

Tackle products such as weights, leaders, hooks and swivels are good to carry for a variety of feeders. Many surf fishermen use triple drop leaders, spider leaders or the pyramid leader. Once again, it is a personal preference and it is based on the type of fish that you are looking for.

It is often best to use bait caught from the same area when you are surf fishing a particular area. That is generally what the fish in the area feed on and what they generally will respond to. Consequently, you will do well to carry some smaller rods or nets in your surf fishing gear for catching the bait your prey prefers.

Moreover, landing nets are important to have when surf fishing. It is also best to have someone else along to help you bring the fish in with the help of a net. The specific net to use will depend on the type of fish that are in the area. Certainly, if your intended prey is a big fish, you will need to have a heavy-duty net handy.

Additionally, the type of water that you are fishing in determines the surf fishing equipment you should use, as good surf fishing is available in either fresh or salt water. Surf fishermen are known to enjoy fishing in rivers, lakes and other small bodies of water.

Surf fishing can also be great fun in the ocean and numerous fishermen surf fish for trophies in salt water. Fishing in the surf is a wonderful pastime for any age group in the family, as there are different sizes of prey to be found there. While wading through the surf, almost everyone will enjoy the sun sparkling on the water while waiting for the creatures moving beneath it.
