When it comes to fly fishing tackle, there are many things that could be considered a part of that group. I will be going over a few of the things that you should have when you are out fly fishing, more than just the fly fishing rod and reel.

You will have a variety of flies to use as bait for the fish. Flies are meant to mimic the look and movement of a fishs natural food source. Some fish prefer different flies, and when you use what they are used to eating, your chances are better of landing a bite. Keep several different types of flies close at hand so you can choose the right fly for the specific fish you are angling for.

The type of line you will be using also plays a big role in fly fishing. Not only do you need a certain pound test if you are fishing for bigger fish, but you will also need line that you will be able to cast efficiently. The line must also match the standards of the fly rod and reel so that you will be able to reel and cast properly.

The majority of fly fisherman will stand in the water when they are fishing, also referred to as wading. For this you will have to invest in a pair of waders, which can be extremely cheap or very expensive. You will have to decide what conditions you primarily be in when you are looking to buy a pair of waders.

Another part of the fishing outfit you should have on top of the waders is a fishing vest. This makes it convenient to store some of your fly fishing tackle in. This allows you to have quick access to flies and other things, instead of returning to shore every time you have to make an adjustment.

Having a pair of good fishing pliers is also a good idea to have on hand. You can keep them in your vest or your waders. The pliers make the process of removing the hook from the fished mouth a much easier task, and also increasing the fishes chance of survival.

Another thing that you can have as a part of your fly fishing gear, but not absolutely necessary, is a water proof camera. Nothing will help you remember those fly fishing trips like a picture, especially if you land a big one!

These are by far not the only things you will need when you are fly fishing. Personal preferences will vary depending upon the person, but items that are mentioned above are the basics that you will need to begin fly fishing.
