If so, then you came to the right place. Bass fishing is extremely popular for many different reasons. Fishing for bass is exciting and fun as this species typically puts up a huge fight making every fishing trip very interesting. The serious anglers enjoy joining in on tournaments for the opportunity to win cash and a variety of great prizes. If you are interested in learning more about bass fishing, then here are some great bass fishing tactics to help you get started.

Here are a few tactics that can be very useful when fishing in dark or murky water. Using lures that make noise can be a great choice as it will help to draw the bass in your direction. Crankbaits is a good example of this type of bait. The best colors to use are the chartreuse, white and chrome. They work best when dragged through grassy areas and around Lilly pads and any other natural structures that are found in the water. Some anglers use bait scents to help encourage the bass to come after their bait.

Spinnerbait is a popular choice and is very efficient when used around boat docks, ledges, grassy areas and Lilly pads. Experimenting with different colors can help you find out which one will work the best in the area you are fishing. Flipping and pitching can also be very effective especially when bass are hiding in heavy cover. The old favorite of plastic worms can work wonderfully as well. In fact, you can get some great results that may even surprise you.

If you are fishing in clear water, then the best bass fishing tactics include using top water plugs and wacky worms. The bass found in clear water will be attracted to your bait when it is presented correctly. Therefore, your presentation can mean the difference in catching your limit and going home empty handed. The main thing that you need to make sure you do when using top water plugs will be to get the bait as close to the bass as possible. If you have problems casting you may want to practice as much as you can to improve your technique. You can normally catch larger bass using this method.

If you are not familiar with wacky worms they are a straight worm that is used with a spinning reel. The only weight used is a swivel that is placed above the bait. It also works great around Lilly pads and canals. Beware that you must pay close attention when using this technique or you may miss the bite. Trolling is another bass fishing tactic that can work very well in most all conditions.

If you are unsure of the right approach, then you can always go with the old favorite fishing rigs. There are three main types of rigs that are called the floating rig, Texas rig and the Carolina rig. Any one of these will work great when bass fishing if you present it correctly. You may have to practice with the presentation for awhile to get the results you are searching for. In fact, the presentation you use for any tactic is very important. It is the job of the angler to make sure they capture the interest of the fish and make them come after the bait. Keep in mind that normally, the slower you present your lure the better.

Fishing for Bass is probably the most popular fishing sport in the United States. Across the US, the most popular Bass fishing events usually happen in the summer months.

Pros and amateurs alike will flock to tournaments stretching from Rhode Island all the way to Texas. It’s very important that these anglers know how the Bass will behave, and what kinds of lures will work best to catch them.

Seasoned anglers usually have a pretty good idea of where the big Bass are just by testing the water temperature and analyzing the surrounding environment.

The angler will then determine what kind of food is available in the water, and make their selection of lure based on these factors. A most effective technique is to pick a lure that mimics food that is not available at that location. This often peaks the curiosity of the Bass, and “lures” them to snatch up your bait!

There are 3 popular lure types that are generally chosen by anglers in these conditions. They are:

1. Crank Baits

Crank baits are good lures to use when Bass are feeding in the mid to surface level. These baits are usually shaped like minnows, and all have a plastic lip that varies in size. This lip determines how deep or shallow the lure will run depending on the speed of retrieval. They are usually bright colored with spotted or striped designs.

2. Swim Baits

These baits resemble the swimming action of a minnow. They have streamlined designs and are shaped like smaller baitfish. The shape of these baits allows for exact imitation of the movement of a live minnow. They are usually equipped with a series of treble hooks suspended from the underbelly of the lure.

3. Jerk Baits

Jerk baits also shaped like minnows but usually weigh more than swim baits. The design of the jerk bait causes it to dive down and then quickly return to the surface using very irregular movemements. This tricks the Bass into thinking that the bait is a distressed minnow, the natural prey of Bass. There’s nothing more attractive to a hungry Largemouth than an injured minnow.

Although there are many different types of artifial lures, some anglers still prefer the use of live baits such as grubs and nightcrawlers. As you hone your Bass fishing techniques you may even learn to make your own lures and you’ll know which lure is best for the type of bass you are trying to catch and it’s surrounding habitat.

You can tell a largemouth bass by the distinctive jagged edged stripes on either side of the fish created by a series of dark spots. The largemouth bass can also be all black in color. Another distinctive characteristic of the largemouth bass is that the upper jaw reaches past the back of the eye.

The diet of the largemouth bass changes throughout its lifespan. Filling up on plankton and insects as young juvenile fish, as it gets older it moves to smaller fish and then eventually birds and small mammals such as rats and mice in adulthood. Using sight, smell and hearing senses, they seize their prey under the cover of brush, grass or drop offs. The main sense that the largemouth bass uses is his sight.

Some of the best largemouth bass fishing can probably done in spawning beds. In shallow waters with average temperatures between 64 and 74 degrees such as small lakes and ponds are where the largemouth bass spawn. Inside the shallow depressions made by the male bass, up to one million eggs can be laid by the female during a single spawning season. Once the female lays the eggs, it is the male who turns unwanted predators away while guarding the eggs.

One of the most exciting things about fishing for the largemouth bass is the fight that is put up when it is hooked. The tug and pull of a largemouth will make anyone’s heart beat faster with the excitement. Some techniques used for largemouth bass fishing are doodling, flipping and pitching. When casting your line it is crucial that you are accurate. The different types of casting are overhand, underhand and sidearm. Some of the casting tips that you can use are as follows:

- Before casting, lower the lure just below the tip of the rod. This allows for momentum.
- If possible try to land your lure on the water with as little noise as possible.
- Cast just beyond your target.
- When casting remember to use your wrist.

There are actually two types of artificial baits used for largemouth bass fishing, soft plastic baits and hard baits. The types of soft plastic baits include tube baits, plastic worms, grubs and soft jerk baits. The types of hard baits that are used are crank baits, swimming spoons, spinner baits, jigging spoons, jigs and vibrating lures.

It is common practice among anglers to release largemouth bass alive. Largemouth bass respond well to catch and release because of their hardiness, and the ability of their large mouth to withstand repeated hook injuries without compromising their ability to feed or causing damage to their gills. There are many methods and options in largemouth bass fishing. This is just a small insight into a much larger world. Thousands of people enjoy fishing for largemouth bass. It is a fun hobby that is perfect for the single fisherman or the whole family.

Recommendations For Organizing a Memorable Float Fishing Trip in Alaska

When it comes to planning a float fishing trip, Alaska is like the Mecca of fishing spots. The views are incredible, the waters are pristine and the fish are abundant.

You’ll find rivers full of fish, beautiful landscapes, great people and an incredible experience. However, before you start booking, read on for a few tips that will ensure your Alaskan fishing trip is one to remember.

Try a Vacation Planner Service

Instead of depending on one specific lodge, charter company or your own self-guided tour, try booking a trip using a planning service. These companies will lock in and plan your fishing trip based on when you’ll be there, what fish you want to catch, your style of fishing and, of course, your budget. They can also be an invaluable resource for finding the best guides and fishing spots.

One company recommended by the Frommer’s Guide to Alaska are Sport Fishing Alaska (907-344-8674). They can coordinate all your need, including your lodging and local travel options.

Do Your Research

Because most of the fish in Alaska are migratory, it’s so important to know when they’re in season, as well as where they’ll be at a specific time. Otherwise, you could find yourself staying at an empty lodge next to a river with no fish.

Your primary source of facts should either be your local guide or the state’s Department of Fish and Game Sport Fish Division. The division is online at sf.adfg.state.ak.us and has one of the most comprehensive websites in the country. Check it weekly for updates on great fishing spots, run data, tips and educational articles.

The site also offers heavily localized information that’s specific to each region and area. You can find publications and data on run times, seasons and also the best lures and flies for fish in the region. For tour operator or charter recommendations, try also calling the department’s local offices.

Book in Advance

For a peak-season float fishing trip, Alaska residents and travel veterans recommend reserving your place early. The best lodges at the peak fishing times tend to book up quickly, meaning you need to be prepared and ready to reserve your place. You’ll also find that port cities and airport hubs can become overcrowded with tourists, so commit to your hotel and rental car well ahead of time.

Packing List for Alaska Fishing

Alaska is all about wild temperatures – from the hot noon sun to the cold nights or pouring rain. Plan ahead by packing clothes that can be layered, will dry quickly and will wick away sweat.

Also, invest your money in a high-quality, waterproof and wind-resistant rainwear suit that’s designed for fishing expeditions. To ensure a comfortable and safe float fishing trip, Alaska residents know you have to pack the right clothes and be prepared.

A fishing trip in Alaska is an opportunity for an exciting adventure on the water. Your advance preparation will not only take your mind off trivial details while there, but also enhance your overall experience.

Boat Fishing Tips and Tricks

If you’re keen to find a fun family activity, then give boat fishing a try. There’s nothing better than heading off on your boat with the wife and kids, talking about the fish you plan to catch that day.

It’s important to realize, though, that there are lots of different types of boat fishing, and each one has specialized boat requirements. You can do everything from dangle some bait on a string over the side of a canoe, right through to high-tech rods and a powerful cabin cruiser. It just needs to be seaworthy – the rest is up to you! But if you’re keen to buy a boat, you need to do some homework first. It can be very confusing walking into a boat show or dealership and seeing so many choices. You need to think about what you’re planning to do with the boat before you can decide which one to buy. Here are some popular boat fishing choices.

Freshwater Boats.

If you enjoy fishing in freshwater lakes, rivers or streams, then you don’t need a massive boat. Instead, choose an aluminum or fiberglass boat. Make sure it’s easy to transport and lightweight. Popular choices include bow riders, runabouts or walley boats, with either a small or dual console. These boats are fine for family freshwater boat fishing outings.

Offshore Saltwater Boats.

Fishing out on the open sea is the most common thing people think of when you mention boat fishing. Most people enjoy fishing offshore because they get the chance to catch huge fish and use heavy tackle. It’s important to have a dependable, heavy boat for this type of fishing. You’ll encounter plenty of different weather and situations on the open sea, so you need to be able to rely on your boat. You can choose twin or single outboard motors, and you definitely need a cuddy cabin or a center console. If you want to spend a bit more, you can start to look at the more luxurious boats, including a bluewater or convertible with luxury quarters, and maybe even an elegant living area. Bigger boats generally have powerful inboard diesel engines as standard.

Inshore Saltwater Boats.

If your tastes run to tarpin, snook, trout, bonefish or redfish, then you will want a boat suitable for inshore saltwater fishing. It’s best to have a light boat that is smaller than a 25-footer. All you need is a single outboard motor. You’re likely to be in shallow water at least some of the time, so something like a flat or baby boat works well. These have a spacious deck you can use for casting, and are still float well in shallow water.

Bass Boats.

This type of boat is generally suitable for tournament and sport fishing. They’re colorful, fast, and ride low in the water. It’s preferable if the bass boat has a trolling motor mounted on the bow. Generally they have a platform at both the bow and stern ends, which makes casting much easier. You can choose from aluminum or fiberglass.

Float Tubes.

These don’t really qualify as boats, but fly anglers find them very handy for fishing in mountain streams, ponds and lakes. A float tube is simply a flotation device containing a seat. The angler is partially submerged when seated in the float tube, and uses fins on his feet to navigate around on the water. They’re tricky to handle, and fly-casting requires lots of practice. You can choose between round float tubes, which are similar to an inner tube, and pontoon float tubes, which have an air chamber either side of the fisherman. The pontoons are slightly eiasier to maneuver, as their v-shaped design reduces the amount of water resistance.

It’s always a good idea to speak to experienced anglers who either have their own boat or use one regularly. They can give you lots of help in deciding which type of boat is right for you. Read magazines, guides, and talk to your local boat charter service. Fishermen generally love to talk about boats, and you can learn a lot to help you select the perfect fishing boat for your needs.

Here is some information on this less commonly caught type of fish and some areas where you can go for good peacock bass fishing.
A peacock bass is similar in shape to the largemouth bass, though it is definitely not a member of the largemouth bass family. In fact, these babies are part of the “cichlids” family, which includes more than 1,000 species worldwide and is well known to tropical fishermen. These fish pick out a vantage point that keeps them well hidden and ambush unsuspecting prey that happens by. They eat opportunistically and are gluttonous in their appetite. At this point, their similarity to largemouth bass ends.

Peacock bass fishing is largely popular due to the fact that the peacock is very eye appealing. The Florida peacock is shaded in blues, greens, oranges, and golds, while the similar species from further north is not nearly as colorful. However, the peacock bass also provides quite a challenge as the toughest freshwater species in the world. Four distinct species of peacock bass are from Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil in South America (known here as pavon), but at least two of these have also migrated up to Florida as a regular habitat. They have come to be known as “peacock” because of a common feature on all of them: there is a black circular “eye” rimmed in gold on the base of the caudal fin that resembles the markings on the tail plume of a male peacock. The average fish you’ll catch while peacock bass fishing will be between two and four pounds, though they can be found much larger.

Peacock bass fishing is a hard fought battle, as this species is strong and doesn’t reel in easily. You’ll be getting your daily workout fishing for these puppies. Most peacocks are found in small lakes, canal systems, and in deep water structure. The basic method of angling for peacock involves simple topwater baits and tactics, though you can also find excellent results at times with hard stickbaits, plastic worms, and rattle traps. If it’s quantity you want, you can even try live bait, which will increase quantities, if not size. Fly fishermen will also get their workout, with peacock putting fly fishing equipment to the test with their struggles. The peacock strikes with bone-jarring strength, performs impressive aerial acrobatics, and can affect line stripping runs. These specimens will routinely break lines and destroy lures and tackle.
