One of the best bass fishing lures that an enthusiast can use is a plug called a Bomber. Depending on where you are fishing you may want to consider using the Mega Bait plug, its a little heavier than the Bomber and you can cast it a little farther. The Mega Bait plug also has a little rattler built inside of it.

If you choose to use Bombers and Mega Baits it is recommended that you fish with a yellow lure during the day and a black lure during the night. If you really want to get the bass in the boat try using a teaser and be prepared to catch more fish than you have in your life.

Keep in mind whenever you are fishing a swimming plug it is best to fish them at a slow pace. This will cause a natural fluent motion. Although it will take a little practice once you get it right you will notice your rod pulsating when your reeling the lure back in.

Rebel Wind Cheater, SRO Prime Minnow, and Danny

There are those times when you want to cast a little further, I recommend using a heavier type plug. Try the SRO Prime Minnow which is a 1 3/4 OZ lure, you may also try the Rebel Wind Cheater which weighs 2 OZ, and my favorite the Danny which weighs a whopping 2 1/4 OZ. All three are great bass fishing lures.

Gibbs Pencil Popper, Stillwater Smack It, The Knuckle Head

Knowing when to use the right lure is half the battle. When you hit the lake and you see some top water activity or birds flying around top water feeding off of critters this is a sign that you need to use a Popper. If the birds are feeding from things on the top of the water, the bass are close by. Whenever you are fishing a Popper, reel it in – in short burst. This jerking motion of the lure on the top of the water will appear to the bass as a small injured creature. To a bass this is easy prey and they will come up from below and engulf the popper.

Every person who fishes has their favorite type of bait. It probably comes from successfully using the bait on several occasions. Then the result? It’s a great bait.

Crawfish was my bait of choice when I was in Missouri. You just couldn’t beat them for trout or a small mouth bass. But I haven’t had much luck finding crawfish in other places. But I will say this, if you can find these little crawdads as they are called in Louisiana, buy and use them. Crawfish are a great way of attracting fish.

I like using live bait when I can. Live minnows are probably one of the most popular live bait fish around. But unless you’re working from a boat, it’s a pain lugging the bait bucket.

Live worms have long been the subject of comedy routines. People just don’t know how to put a worm on a hook. When a gang hook is used a worm stretches out and looks natural. The fish don’t get suspicious and you catch more fish.

Some people won’t have anything to do with live bait. Don’t know if they are squeamish or just lazy. Really doesn’t matter. Some of the newer synthetic bait is just amazing. And in some instances I can say the synthetic baits are coming darn close to live bait. Now synthetic bait comes in every shape, form and bait you can think of, and some you probably haven’t thought of. Synthetic bait offers convenience and the ability to pick up and go fishing without having to stopping by a bait shop.

You know when it comes down to choice it’s really about fishing and not just talking. You can talk about bait, debate the merits of this type vs that type. But without fishing you’ll never be a good fisherman. So try out various baits, but get out there and fish.

Lures are the first, and possibly only, thing people think of when they hear the term carp fishing tackle. Lures are usually intended to imitate the look and movement of real fish. This will accomplish one of two objectives. The fish will either see the lure as food or as a challenge to their territory. Either response is likely to cause the fish to strike. No carp fishing tackle box would be complete without lures.

Next we come to flies, which are similar in purpose to lures and yet are different enough in the world of carp fishing tackle to earn separate mention. An entire art form has grown out of the attempts to create flies that will fool a fish into striking. Yes the world of carp fishing tackle has spawned an art form.

No lure or fly would be useful in your collection of carp fishing tackle unless they are combined with a hook. Single hooks, triple hooks, barbed or not, a hook is needed on every lure or fly to ensnare and hold the fish.

Finally we come to floats and sinkers. Your carp fishing tackle is not complete without floats and sinkers which take on a special significance. Experienced fishermen know that different types of fish are best caught at specific depths. The wide variety of floats and sinkers will place your bait at the specific depth most commonly associated with the type of fish you’re trying to catch.

So now you know the most basic elements of carp fishing tackle. Of course we have only scratched the surface but you do now have the basics of carp fishing tackle jargon. Let these basics of carp fishing tackle be your first step on your journey into the wonderful world of carp fishing.
