There is a lot of money to be made in bass fishing from tournaments, boat sponsors, along with many other bass related stuff that is on the market, such as clothes and other types of fishing gear.

When it comes to a bass habitat, they can be found almost anywhere that there is freshwater. The most popular places to find bass though are in rivers and lakes. Waters that are high in oxygen are the most likely places where you are going to find some hungry bass that are willing to bite.

When it comes to the types of bass, the largemouth is the one that most bass fisherman are out to catch. The reason is they get the biggest and they also put up one heck of a fight. 10 pound and above largemouth bass are very common to catch.

Some other types of freshwater fish that are also worthy to catch are the brown bullhead, along with the catfish. These fish are very fun to fight, not only are they very fun to fight they can make a great meal at the dinner table also. But when it comes to overall popularity, the bass still takes the crown of freshwater fishing.

All you really need is a pole and some bait to catch yourself some dinner when freshwater fishing. But if you are going for bass you will have to test the waters, you will have to test and try out different lures, as you will need different lures for different water conditions.

There are innumerable techniques and types of tackle available to practice the sport of bass fishing. For a beginner, it is advised to gather some more basic tools to get started. Some suggestions point towards acquiring a 10-pound line, suitable for the average sizes and weights of this species.

A good bait for bass, if you are clueless as to what you can use would be a Spinnerbait. Spinnerbaits are widely used by the professional anglers, along with the amateur anglers. Unless you are fly fishing for bass, I would stick with an artificial bait.

The catch and release method was first introduced in the 1950s. It was designed to reduce the rising costs of restocking hatchery-raised fish, and was normally used for fish not meant for consumption. Popular consensus does not consider bass as a food fish, and thus this technique is widely used.

There really are so many different hints and tips that you will hear about how to catch bass but there are always some predominant ones that should be taken into account.

1. Firstly the location is very important if you want to be able to get a big catch. It can be very difficult to judge where the bass are going to gather and will obviously differ if you are looking at fresh water bass or sea bass.

Especially in Britain the sea bass is becoming rare because of the illegal fishing from french and Spanish pair trawlers are taking thousands of tonnes of bass at a time.

There are however still hot spots where are protected from trawlers finding them is the key.

2. The type of bait you use is essential in getting the desired catch. If you are new to learning about how to catch bass then there are excellent books and ebooks available to show you how to pick the correct bait for the type of bass that you after.

3. The lay of the underwater terrain will also make a huge difference in how to catch bass. In the books available they will describe how you can factor in all of the issues in order for you to get your best bass catch.
There are so many books available that claim to give you all the information that you ever need however i have found an excellent one by a man called Fraser Wheaton, which is a complete guide for the beginner right up to the advanced bass fisherman.

Chapter 5, Kick Butt Bass fishing techniques

I thought it would be interesting to ask professional and amateur bass anglers alike a very tricky question, and that question was as follows:

“If you could only choose one lure to use in the bass fishing tournament of your life, what lure would that be – and why?”

I was blown away at the feedback that I received. I expecting the majority to say something along the lines of a worm or maybe even a spinnerbait. Hands down over 90% of anglers surveyed said that they would use a crankbait. Once I began reading the reasons why it began to make since to me. The general consciences was that a crankbait could be fished anywhere. It could be fished on top of the water, everywhere in between and all the way to the bottom. Other fans of using a crankbait to fish the tournament of your life suggested that adding weight to make the crankbait suspend in the water.

Other fellow bass fishermen suggested using a crankbait with a large bill when fishing in heavy cover. They claim that the bill will act as a guard for the hooks. One bass fisherman even went as far as to say that you should cut off the bottom hook on the treble, to make the crankbait weedless.

Crankbait Tips Submitted by Users
Tip#1: Whenever fishing in 10 to 12 feet water you should use a crankbait that will run 15 feet. As most anglers know most crankbaits will not run as deep as the maker advertises.

Tip#2: The lighter your line, the deeper your crankbait will go. If you put your rod tip down into the water, your crankbait will run about a foot or so deeper than if your line was on the surface.

Tip#3: Plastic crankbaits will be easier to cast than wooden ones, but by and large wooden ones have better action and more buoyancy than plastic ones.

Tip#4: When it comes to crankbaits remember flat-sided cranks have a tighter wobble and will work better in cooler water. A stop-and-go retrieve will out produce a steady one every time.

Tip#5: In off-colored water, no matter what your lure color might be use one with rattles. In clear water, go with smaller baits and subdued hues.

Tip#6: If you find a crankbait that seems to really catch fish you should mark it and only use it in tournaments.

Tip#7: If it is your first time fishing a lake, or it is pre-fish day before a tournament it’s always good to use a crankbait because you can cover way more territory faster.

A Swim Jig has been one of the top choices when it comes to jigs and bass fishing. The average bass fisherman when fishing a jig will make a cast. If his or her cast fails to hit the target they will simply reel the jig back in. As your fishing the jig back in you notice a record setting bass following the jig back to the boat. What do you do??? Your fisherman instinct kicks in and you stop reeling. The bass makes an immediate U-turn and swims away. After having this happen more times than you care to count common since finally kicks in and you start fishing the jig back to the boat. The bass will start striking! This strategy is exactly how the “Swim Jig” tactic was born. What started out as a boring regular bass jig has now changed to a specialty swim jig that is currently on the market. The most popular type of swim jig is the “Outkast Swim Jig.”
In a nutshell if you can fish a spinnerbait you can fish a swim jig. If you are a novice bass fisherman I highly recommend that you start fishing a swim jig – my research shows that a swim jig is more fishable than a spinnerbait. Using a swim jig is simple… All you have to do is make your cast and start reeling your jig back in. Do not make the mistake of attempting to finesse the swim jig simply let it do it’s job. In most cases if you try to add a little action to the jig the bass will get turned off.
You are probably asking yourself… “How fast do I reel the swim jig back in?” Good question my friend! A safe bet is to judge your reel speed by the size jig you are using and how deep you need to get your swim jig down to. In most cases a pro bas fisherman will use either a 1/4oz or a 3/8oz jig. Another great tip for getting more bass to strike your swim jig is the trailer that you use. I recommend that you give a 5” Outkast Fat Tail Grub a try. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Plastic chinks, Naughty Bugs and even double tail grubs are all great options to test. Play around with various trailers to see how they affect your jig, and how the bass in your area like it. After a little testing you will soon learn what trailer to use for the conditions you are fishing.

Jig Worm
As the summer begins to heat up the bass will begin to take refuge in the deeper water on the outside weedline edges or may move even deeper to off shore humps. When bass begin to move to deeper water it will become more difficult to get them to bite. That’s when you should use a jig worm presentation. This is when you will have to really know how to finesse your jig worm.
With this type of scenario I recommend using a 4” or a 6” worm when it comes to plastics. When you are faced with cold front conditions bass have a tendency to really slow down, in which case you will have to use smaller baits.
Touchdown Jig
Follow this tip and you are guaranteed to put bass in the boat. When fishing a Touchdown Jig the secret is in the retrieval. Most fishermen will hop the jig along the bottom the way you would fish a traditional jig. This is a big mistake… The key to fishing a Touchdown jig is to drag the jig along the bottom. When you feel that Touchdown Jig catch on a rock don’t pull it over the rock. Wiggle it back and forth a few times before you move the jig onto the next rock – this strategy will literally force those bass to strike.

Flippin and Pitching
It’s summer and you think that you have your strategy all planned out… Then comes a little cold front… What now? When that cold front hits the bass will bury themselves in whatever cover they can find. Once they head for cover you have to send that jig in to get them. For best results, match your jig color to the color of the cover that the fish is in. Under these conditions flippin and pitching is a bass fisherman’s best friend.

Depending on the cover you will have to finesse flip your jig in order to get a bite, then there will be those days when you have to power your jig through the cover to even get your bait into the bass zone.
Well my friend, go and use these tactics in good health, and make sure to share these pro bass fishing jig tips with other fellow bass fishermen.

The majority of industry expert studies indicate that if a bass is holding in three-feet of water, a difference in water pressure caused by a difference in air pressure would be so low that neither man nor fish could detect it.

If the bass changes depth by three inches, the change in water pressure would be far greater than any change caused by a change in air pressure. A bass will change depths by ore than three-inches several times an hour, while it takes eight or more hours for the change in air pressure that is equal to a three-inch change in water depth.

Other bass fishing experts tend to fallow the theory that moist air weighs less than dry air, ad warm air is lighter than cold air. Therefore, warm moist air causes low air pressure readings, not the other way around.

Conversely, dry colder air causes increases in air pressure, not the other way around.

When the atmosphere changes from sunny to cloudy, the air pressure drops and the fish react to the change in cloud cover, not to the change in air pressure. Similarly, a cold front is a mass of cold, dry air that pushes away any warmer, moister air in front of it. When a cold front approaches we see cloudy, rainy weather, which causes a drop I air pressure. Then, immediately behind the front there is cooler, clear, dry air. These conditions cause a rise in air pressure.

Differentials in air pressure behind the front cause a strong northerly wind. The bass react to changes in cloud cover and changes in wind, not to changes in air pressure.

When a cold front passes through, it has a major effect on bass fishing. Whether it is cause or effect, the bass seem to get lockjaw after a cold front passes through. Bass instinctively hold close to cover when the sun is shining, and they scatter as the sky clouds over. When the sun is shining expect the bite to come when the lure is close to cover. On cloudy days the bite can occur anywhere. On sunny days we are constantly tossing lures at cover. On cloudy days we tend to fan cast large areas. On sunny days we may toss crankbaits or spinner baits at cover, but if this does not work, we toss jigs-and-pigs or soft plastic at the cover.

On cloudy days we work large areas rapidly with crankbaits or spinner baits, and we seldom throw soft plastic at cover.

With either sun or clouds, we may throw a lizard on a Carolina rig, but we work the rig more rapidly on cloudy days than on sunny days.

And most importantly DON’T FORGET TO SET THE HOOK!

You can tell a largemouth bass by the distinctive jagged edged stripes on either side of the fish created by a series of dark spots. Another distinctive characteristic of the largemouth bass is that the upper jaw reaches past the back of the eye.

The diet of the largemouth bass changes throughout its lifespan. Filling up on plankton and insects as young juvenile fish, as it gets older it moves to smaller fish, and then eventually birds and small mammals such as rats and mice in adulthood. Using their sight, smell, and hearing senses, they seize their prey under the cover of brush, grass, or drop offs. The main sense that the largemouth bass uses is its sight.

The most suitable place for largemouth bass fishing is in their spawning beds. These are usually found in shallow waters, such as ponds and small lakes, with mild temperatures (roughly 64 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit). Female bass lay their eggs in shallow hollows that are prepared by the male bass. In these hollows, she can lay roughly 1 000 000 eggs in a spawning season. The male bass then protects the eggs from the many predators that inhabit the water.

One of the most exciting things about fishing for the largemouth bass is the fight that is put up when it is hooked. The tug and pull of a largemouth bass will make anyone’s heart beat faster with excitement. Some techniques used for largemouth bass fishing are doodling, flipping, and pitching. When casting your line it is crucial that you are accurate. The different types of casting are overhand, underhand, and sidearm. Some of the casting tips that you can use are as follows:

* Lower your lure below the tip of your rod before you cast your line. This will give the lure good momentum when it is cast.
* Try to land your lure on the surface of the water as quietly as possible.
* Always cast your lure beyond the position of the fish that you wish to catch.
* Good wrist movement is important when casting.

There are actually two types of artificial baits used for largemouth bass fishing, i.e. soft plastic baits and hard baits. The types of soft plastic baits include tube baits, plastic worms, grubs, and soft jerk baits. The types of hard baits that are used are crank baits, swimming spoons, spinner baits, jigging spoons, jigs, and vibrating lures.

Most largemouth bass fishermen release their catch once they have successfully reeled it in. Largemouth bass are quite tough and they are able to withstand many catch and release situations and hook injuries without damaging their mouths and gills. There is much more to be learnt with regard to largemouth bass fishing – this article merely highlights a few important largemouth bass facts that you should know. Largemouth bass fishing is a hobby that is enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages all around the world – appropriate for solo fishing excursions and group trips alike.

by Tim Beachum

One of the best things you must do to design a great angling trip is to distinguish your priorities. You require to be more specified than just saying you want special fishing trip. Great fishing may mean opposite things to for each one person in your fishing company.

One individual might be glad with catching 60 fish per day, while another might be hoping for 30 fish per hour. So, you require to decide this up in advance.

Let us take look at some of the most essential things to look at when deciding where to go on your fishing trip.

What type of fish do you are you wishing to catch?

While this may appear transparent, it is something that wants to be talked about. One individual may want to fish for walleye and northern pike, while others may want to go bass fishing. Since some northern lakes have water too frozen for bass, you may finish up at a lake that would really disappoint the bass fisherman.

Do you wish for tons of activity? Or trophy fish?

Some anglers simply enjoy getting lots of fish with the desire of getting a few huge ones. Other fishermen would sooner give up catching a large quantity of fish for a better opportunity at catching the greatest fish they can find. You need to resolve which is more important to your fishing trip… lots of fish that perhaps aren’t the hugest or less fish but a better opportunity of a truly big one.

It should be mentioned that there are many places where you can do both… catch heaps of fish and get tremendous huge ones. But, these tend to be at the more distant and high-priced lodges and are not always doable for many fishing groups.

How are you going to catch your fish?

Do you like to troll? Or drift? Fish in flows? Deep water fish?

We’ve seen people trolling in sixty feet of water thinking the fish were only a couple of feet from the surface of the water. Not much prospect of catching anything this way. Be sure you know the type of fishing your group favors and that the lake will offer it.

What do you require to expend for this fishing trip?

The price you’re ready to pay will have a huge impact on the type of fishing trip you will have.

Be realistic. How much do you really desire to spend? Are you happy to camp or tar-paper hut on a lake with tremendous sport fishing?

Or would you favour staying at a more upscale fishing inn?

Do you want to take care of yourself… or do you want the fishing camp to do the cookery?

And what about shower installations? Are you happy to use a residential area shower bath or do you want a private shower and bath in your own cabin. Gentlemen, if you are taking your mate on this trip, make utterly sure you look at this one! If you do not, it could mess up an otherwise tremendous trip.

Other things to think about are how extended the trip will be and the type of fish you are wanting to catch. A trip to a fishing hostelry on a lake with pan fish and bass will in all probability be much less money that a trip to Alaska or Northern Canada for arctic charge.

So, if you in truth want a great fishing trip, begin by planning just exactly what you require out of the trip and how much you are prepared to expend. Do it the right way and you can have the fishing trip of your lifetime.

From the east coast of the United States to the west coast, sport fishing for bass is one of the most enjoyed summertime sporting events. Professionals and amateurs enter tournaments as well as simply having a bass fishing weekend or go on daily trips to a favorite lake.

Besides being a significant sporting event, bass fishing is considered an art. To be successful, it is essential to be able to choose the best bass fishing lures to use based on the behavior of the fish, water temperature, seasonal movements, and water conditions.

There are plenty of freshwater bass fishing lures that are customarily used in places where bass are known to concentrate. The many kinds of bass include small and large-mouthed bass, peacock, spotted, stripped and white bass. Each one of these types is approached by using a different size and style of lure. Bass fishing lures often include the following:

Topwater baits – these lures are used on the surface of the water. They are designed to float and move across the water in order to attract bass that are feeding right below the surface. Topbaits may be buzzbaits or rattlebaits that utilize their movement through the water to make a vibration or sound to attract bass, or they may have tiny propellers that are there to make a splashing sound when breaking the surface of the water.

Crankbait – these bass fishing lures may be used at any water depth, from near the surface, mid-level and really deep. Depending on the depth of use and the action that you want to get from them, crankbaits can have a lip or may be lipless. These baits typically are shaped like very thick minnows and they are known to attract the fish due to the of the movements they make going through the water, when the lure is “cranked” or reeled in.

Crankbait – these bass fishing lures may be used at any water depth including deep, mid-level, or very close to the top. Crankbaits come with or without a lip, which is dependent on the depth at which they are used and the action that the fisherman desires to get from them. Crankbaits are most often shaped to resemble thick minnows and they attract fish when they move through the water while the lure is being reeled in.

Topwater baits – these particular bass fishing lures are used on the water’s surface. They float and are moved in order to attract bass feeding just below the surface. Topbaits are usually rattlebaits or buzzbaits and actually utilize the movement along the surface of the water to produce a sound or vibration that helps attract bass. Or, they may have small propellers to make a splashing sound when they are cutting through the surface of the water.

Bass fishing lures also may include live bait fish, trolling baits, and worms. Most often, the lures will be brightly colored for fishing in bright conditions and in deep waters. More naturally-colored lures are used for fishing in the typical shallow and the cloudy water near the shoreline.
