Fishing Floats – How To Use Them To Catch A Record Number Of Fish

Fishing floats also known as bobbers, serves a dual purpose in the world of anglers. It allows the angler to set a predetermined depth, and it will alert the angler when a bass (or any fish) has taken the bait. Fishing floats come in all shapes color and sizes, and each serves their own purpose.

One of my personal favorites is the skinny, long type of bobber, which I use when fishing coarse type waters. I also get excellent results when I fish a float in still waters. In this type of situation I choose to use a very thin tube style float made of plastic – most anglers refer to this style as a waggler.

When you are fishing in slow flowing water nothing beats using an avon fishing bobber. This type of float can be easily identified because of its oval shape, which is hollow on the top. The design of the avon float allows the angler to cast their bait much further.

One of my favorite types of float are the ones that allow you directional control. If you are on a river, and the current is not to fast, you can use this float to move your bait down stream, left or right. Having this type of control will allow you to reach areas of the river that you may not have otherwise been able to access. Most anglers will use this type of lure to fish under docks etc…

As I sit here pecking out the words that you are reading, a nostalgic moment draped over me. I could not help but drift back to a few childhood memories when my father use to take me fishing. I remember sitting there looking at the fishing bobber praying that a fish would take the bait. Minutes seemed like hours, and when the moment finally came it was incredible. Seeing that bobber go under and feeling the tug of the fishing rod – Ahhhhh no words can possibly express what that feeling was like.

Since my childhood days fishing floats have changed and there are a variety of styles to choose from, however the purpose that they serve remains the same to this day. Personally I I do not think that they will ever change and I hope that everyone can experience the feeling that I did at least once in their life.

Fishing Bobber Basics

When using a fishing float, you should use one just big enough to support the bait and weight. You will know if you have everything right if only the top of the float is displayed. After casting it’s time to play the waiting game, and wait for the float to go under before attempting to set the hook.

It is also recommended that you make your leader light enough so that it will not frighten the fish. Professional anglers recommend that you use a bait that will sink once you have casted. If you are using the wrong bait, and it is to light it will float and will not look as appetizing to most fish. Check your hooks before heading off on your next fishing trip. Fishing with old or unsharpened hooks could lead to loosing that record breaking fish. Before casting make sure that you have your bait level set correctly under the float, but not to close to the bottom this will hinder your efforts.
